Beef BBQ: Thanks to everyone for supporting with deserts, help, & attending. The list is so long but you are all so important in making this event so successful.

Lawn Bowling: The Galetta Lawn Bowling Club has had a great season this summer & will continue until at least mid-September. We hosted the Provincial finals for the mixed doubles in mid-August & the winner of the Gold Medal & the winner of the Silver Medal went on to the Canadian Championship in Fredericton over the Labour Day weekend. Ontario was represented by David & Sandra Jefferies of the Galetta Club (they took the bronze medal in this event) as well as the team from Balmy Beach, Toronto. David Jefferies was also a member of one of the teams that represented Ontario for the Men’s Fours & they won the Silver Medal. The other Ontario team won the gold medal. This Canadian Championship took place in Montreal August 19-25th. We are very proud of our champions, but are also pround of all the members who participate every week at our local greens. Glen Eastman is the President of our club, Malcolm Rose maintains the greens, Shirley Carmichael looked after all the tournaments with Sandra Fletcher being the food organizer for the various tournaments throughout the year. Thanks to all our members who do various jobs throughout the year. The closing dinner will be September 25th at the Galetta Hall.

Rummage Sale:  Will take place October 20th, 21st & 22nd. Articles may be left at the door of the hall or on the back verandah. If convenient, please call 623-0893, 623-3051, or 623-3890. Schedule for set-ups & working times will be posted on the bulletin board outside the hall. Call & let us know if you are available to help. We need everyone & more!!!

Once again Ron Wallace got his hammer going & donated his labour to build the new island in the kitchen. Many thanks Ron!

March 2007 Newsletter

EUCHRES:  We had great turn-outs for our February series of euchres & many thanks go out to those who helped to supply & prepare the food. Our appreciation also goes out to those who donated door prizes: Jimmy James, M & R Feeds & Coldwell Banker. Many hands make light work & we would like to see more volunteers to help out with both donating & preparing food for the fall sessions in November.

RINK:  Despite a late start due to the weather, the rink was also enjoyed by many, young & old alike. Thanks to Jeff Egan for doing a great job of monitoring & Dale Murphy for giving us such good ice. M & R Feeds requested donations of used skates & hockey equipment for the sports centre in their advertisement & we have had a great response. Thanks to all who donated.

FAMILY FUN & APPRECIATION DAY:   Sunday, February 18th was a huge success. Thanks to everyone who supported us in this endeavour.  Look forward to a similar event taking place this summer.

MEMBERSHIPS:  If you don’t already have your membership for this year, please contact either Eleanor Wallace at 623-3890 or Kimberley O’Shaugnessy at 623-9627.

LAWN BOWLING; When you are planning your summer activities don’t forget that the Galetta Community Association offers lawn bowling as one of their recreational activities. It’s a great bargain at $55.00 for the season (includes GCA membership). We play Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday evenings at 6:30 p.m. Come once a week or every night, it’s up to you. Lots of fun & exercise & a great chance to make some new friends. Galetta will host the Ontario Mixed Pairs Championships in August.

LOOKING AHEAD:  Again this year we will be holding only one rummage sale so mark your calendars for the week-end of October 20th & start saving your treasures for donation. This event requires a lot of time & work so volunteers are greatly appreciated.

We will soon be looking for tenders for grass cutting. Watch the local newspapers for an advertisement.

The next General Meeting will be held at the Galetta Hall, March 26th, 2007 at 7 p.m. Please plan to attend.
